DiaViewer

Privacy Policy

Last updated September 26, 2026

The short version

  • DiaViewer has no accounts, no analytics, no ads, and no tracking. It contains no third-party code libraries or SDKs.
  • The app talks only to the photo server you enter, and to Apple for the in-app purchase. It never sends me your photos, videos, server address, username, or password.
  • Your sign-in details and settings are stored on your Apple TV. I can't see, access, or delete them.
  • If you email me, I get your email address and whatever you write, and I use it only to respond and to fix what you report.
  • I don't sell personal information or share it for advertising.

This summary is for convenience. The full policy below is what applies.

1. Who I am and what this policy covers

DiaViewer is an app for Apple TV developed and published by Michael Johanson, an individual developer in Arizona, United States (“I,” “me,” “my”). I am an individual, not a company.

This policy explains how information is handled when you use the DiaViewer app for tvOS (the “App”) or contact me for support about it. It covers the App only, not this website. It should be read together with the Terms of Service.

Under data protection laws such as the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), I am the “controller” only of the limited personal information described in section 6 and section 7. I am not the controller of your photo server, its contents, or the information the App stores on your Apple TV, none of which the App sends to me.

2. What DiaViewer doesn't do

The App does not:

  • require, offer, or create an account with me;
  • include analytics, advertising, crash-reporting, or any other third-party code libraries or SDKs;
  • show advertising, or track you across other companies' apps or websites;
  • access or use Apple's advertising identifier;
  • send your photos, videos, photo metadata, credentials, settings, or how you use the App to me or to any server I operate;
  • share user data with any third party, including advertisers and data brokers;
  • let you upload, post, or share content with me or with other users.

3. What stays on your Apple TV

To work, the App keeps the following on your Apple TV. It stays on the device. I have no way to see it, access it, or delete it for you.

InformationWhere it's keptWhy
Server address and usernameThe App's settings storageTo reconnect to your server.
Password, session token, and preview tokenThe Apple TV's Keychain, tvOS's encrypted storage for credentialsTo sign in, and to renew an expired session without asking you again.
Preferences such as selected albums, slide style, timing, wall color, and captionsThe App's settings storageTo remember your choices.
Whether Photo Wall is unlockedThe App's settings storage; Apple's record of your purchase is the source of truthSo Photo Wall is available as soon as the App opens.
Temporary copies of photos and videosDevice memory and the App's temporary and cache storageSo slideshows play smoothly.

Videos are downloaded to the App's temporary folder a few at a time and deleted as the slideshow moves on, and whenever the App starts. Photos are held in memory, and tvOS may also keep downloaded images in the App's cache storage. tvOS can clear cache and temporary storage at any time.

Removing it

  • Sign out in the App's Settings removes the session and preview tokens. Your server address, username, and password may remain stored so you can sign back in. Signing out doesn't end the session on your server, which stays valid until it expires under your server's settings.
  • Deleting DiaViewer from your Apple TV removes its settings and cached files. Keychain entries may remain on the device after an app is deleted.
  • Resetting your Apple TV (Settings > System > Reset) erases everything, including Keychain entries.

4. Your photo server

DiaViewer connects directly from your Apple TV to the PhotoPrism server address you enter. Nothing passes through me or through any server I operate.

To sign in and play slideshows, the App sends your username and password to that server, and requests album lists, photo listings, images, videos, and their metadata, such as titles, descriptions, dates, places, and camera details. Captions, which are on unless you turn them off, show a photo's title, description, and place. Photo details, such as the date and camera settings, appear when you ask for them with the remote. The App processes all of this on your Apple TV and sends it nowhere else.

Your server is run by you, or by whoever operates it, not by me. Its operator decides what it records and keeps. For example, PhotoPrism can record sign-ins and the network address and device type of devices that connect to it. That server's practices are governed by its operator's policies, not this one.

Encryption. If your server address begins with https://, the connection is encrypted. If it begins with http://, as is common on a home network, your password, photos, and videos travel across that network unencrypted. If you enter an address without either prefix, DiaViewer uses http://. Choosing how your server is reached is up to you.

Local network. tvOS may ask you to allow DiaViewer to access your local network. The App needs this only to reach a server on your home network and uses it for nothing else.

PhotoPrism is a trademark of PhotoPrism UG. DiaViewer is an independent app and is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by PhotoPrism UG.

5. In-app purchases

The Photo Wall unlock is sold through Apple's App Store. Apple handles payment, billing, Family Sharing, and refunds. I never receive your name, Apple Account, email address, or payment details.

The App checks whether you've unlocked Photo Wall using Apple's StoreKit framework, which verifies your purchase with Apple. Apple gives me sales and financial reports, such as units sold, country or region, and proceeds, that do not identify you.

Apple's handling of your information is governed by the Apple Privacy Policy.

6. What Apple may share with me

If you've chosen in your Apple TV's privacy settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple may provide me with crash reports and aggregated usage statistics for DiaViewer, such as installations, sessions, and crashes. Apple provides this in a form that does not identify you, and I use it only to find and fix problems. You can turn this sharing off at any time in your Apple TV's privacy settings.

Ratings and reviews you post on the App Store are public, are handled by Apple, and may receive a public reply from me.

7. When you email me

If you email support@mikejohanson.com, I receive your email address, your name if your email includes it, and anything you choose to include, such as screenshots or a description of a problem. I use this only to respond to you, to keep a record of our conversation, and to fix problems you report.

Please don't email me your server password, private photos, unredacted screenshots of your library, or other sensitive information. I don't need them to help you.

Email is delivered and stored by email service providers, including yours and mine, which process messages as part of providing that service.

8. Sharing and disclosure

The App itself shares no user data with anyone. I don't sell or rent personal information, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, or use it for profiling or automated decision-making. I disclose the limited information I hold, described in sections 6 and 7, only:

  • to service providers that host my email, only as needed to provide those services;
  • when required by law, subpoena, court order, or other legal process;
  • when I believe in good faith that it's necessary to protect my rights, property, or safety, or those of users or others, or to investigate fraud, abuse, or security issues;
  • to a successor, if ownership of DiaViewer is transferred, in which case this policy continues to apply to information collected under it;
  • with your consent.

10. Retention

I keep support emails only as long as reasonably needed to help you and keep a record of our conversation, and delete them on request, unless I need to keep them to comply with the law or to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims. Information stored by the App stays on your Apple TV until it is removed as described in section 3.

11. International users

DiaViewer is available worldwide, and I am in the United States. If you email me from outside the United States, your information will be processed in the United States, whose data protection laws may differ from those where you live. Where the law requires a basis for that transfer, I rely on it being necessary to respond to your request.

12. Security

The App stores credentials in the tvOS Keychain and connects only to the server address you provide, and to Apple for the in-app purchase. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, and I can't guarantee the security of any information.

You're responsible for the security of your photo server, your network, your Apple TV, and your credentials. Anyone who can use your Apple TV can open DiaViewer and view whatever the signed-in server account can reach. A separate, read-only server account for the TV limits what the App can see.

13. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, including the EEA, the UK, Switzerland, California and other US states, Canada, Brazil, and Australia, you may have the right to:

  • know what personal information I hold about you, and get a copy;
  • have it corrected or deleted;
  • restrict or object to how I use it;
  • receive it in a portable format;
  • withdraw consent, where I rely on consent;
  • appeal my decision on your request, where the law provides for that;
  • complain to your local data protection authority.

The App keeps its information only on your Apple TV, so I hold nothing from the App to give you or delete. You control it on the device, as described in section 3. For support emails or anything else I might hold, email support@mikejohanson.com. I may need to confirm your identity, for example by replying to the address you wrote from, and I'll respond within the time the law requires. Where the law allows, an authorized agent may make a request for you. I won't treat you differently for exercising these rights.

I don't “sell” or “share” personal information as California law and similar state laws define those terms, so there is nothing to opt out of.

14. Children

DiaViewer is not directed to children under 13, or under the minimum age of digital consent where they live (16 in some countries), and I don't knowingly collect personal information from them. The App itself doesn't collect personal information from anyone. If you believe a child has sent me personal information, email me and I'll delete it.

Your library may include photos of children. The App shows them only on your Apple TV and never sends them to me. What the App shows depends entirely on the server it connects to. Parents and guardians are responsible for what their children can see.

15. Changes to this policy

I may update this policy, for example when the App changes. The updated version will be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date. DiaViewer has no accounts, so I can't notify you directly. For significant changes, I'll try to mention them in the App's release notes or on this website. Please check this page for the current version. If a change expands what information is collected, I'll update this policy before the change takes effect and ask for your consent where the law requires it.
